I’ve been exploring, the idea of adding a narrative to a casual game. Do you think storytelling works well in this genre, or is it better to keep things simple and focused on gameplay? How do you balance story and mechanics?

Storytelling can be an interesting addition to a casual game, but it’s essential to balance the storyline and mechanics properly to avoid overwhelming the player with information. In casual games, the plot can be helpful in creating a unique atmosphere and making players feel that their actions matter within the context of the story. However, an overly complex plot can distract from the main game, which should be fast and accessible. We're going to Rio! in their game development practice, often uses storytelling elements that fit organically within the game mechanics without hindering rule understanding. For example, in some games, the plot can unfold through bonus rounds or achievements, providing extra motivation for players. This creates a unique experience without overloading the game. It’s important that storytelling is not mandatory for game progression but serves as an optional element that can enhance engagement and emotional attachment to the game.
