Runes that are single can be dropped anywhere in Diablo 2: Resurrected, starting with Normal difficulty up into Hell difficulty. Runes can be socketed, as gems are, so they can be placed in items that are socketed to D2R Items get their effects. However, the real power of the rune is when you combine them in a particular order within a specific item. Runewords, or runewords as they're referred to, are some of the most powerful items available in the game, right ahead of set items and uniques. A complete list for runewords can be found in the following section.
Runes may also be used in specific Horadric Cube recipes. You can, for instance, mix a Ral rune alongside a damaged piece of gear to repair it. This is a great trick when you're low on gold and are unable to afford repairs at a shop. Runes can also be combined together in the Horadric Cube; this is often referred to as "cubing the up" and it is a very common method to gain access to the next level of rune without having to find it by chance. If, for instance, you already have 3 El runes but need an Eld rune, you can place the three El runes inside the Cube and then press the transmute button. The result will be the Eld rune. This upgrade recipe is included in the rune chart to the left.
The quest to find the Hellforge within Act 4 will always drop some runes. It can be used to pay for a rush through the various acts. The Countess's room, in the at the bottom of the Forgotten Tower in Act 1's Black Marsh, is another excellent source of runes.Because runs have a particular rareness that ranges from the most popular (El) all the way to the most rare (Zod) They are often employed to boost the economy of Diablo 2. El to Lem are usually considered to be low runes, Pul through Gul are usually considered to D2R ladder items buy be mid runes and Vex and Zod are typically considered to be high runes. If you find mid or high runes in your travels, make sure not to dispose of these runes in a hurry!
